Far-infrared electron-paramagnetic-resonance spectrometer utilizing a quasioptical reflection bridge

چکیده
We describe a far-infrared electron-paramagnetic-resonance ~EPR! spectrometer for broadband ~100–300 GHz! use. The spectrometer is operated in the reflection mode and uses broadband quasioptical methods to separate the transmitted from the reflected radiation. We describe and illustrate its operation at 170 GHz ~1.8 mm! and compare its performance to that of our transmission mode spectrometer operating at 250 GHz. We also discuss the advantages of the reflection bridge for performing EPR experiments over a broad range of frequencies, and we consider methods of improving the performance of the bridge. This includes a novel design for variable coupling of the reflection-mode Fabry–Pérot resonator. © 1996 American Institute of Physics. @S0034-6748~96!05507-4#

We describe a quasioptical 94 GHz kW pulsed electron paramagnetic resonance spectrometer featuring pi/2 pulses as short as 5 ns and an instantaneous bandwidth of 1 GHz in nonresonant sample holders operating in induction mode and at low temperatures. Low power pulses can be as short as 200 ps and kilowatt pulses as short as 1.5 ns with timing resolution of a few hundred picoseconds. Phase and f...
متن کاملELECTRON PARAMAGNETIC RESONANCE (EPR) SPECTROSCOPY AND GEOCHEMISTRY IN TIN EXPLORATION AT RENISON, TASMANIA AUSTRALIA
Rock powder of dolomite samples from the Renison mine area of Tasmania, Australia were analyzed by electron paramagnentic resonance spectroscopy (EPR), Atomic Absorption and Mass Spectrometer to identify alteration related to mineralisation. The least-altered dolomite samples, which are not effected by circulation of diagenetic and hydrothermal fluids are characterised by low Mn and Fe and ...
متن کاملDemystifying EPR: A Rookie Guide to the Application of Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Spectroscopy on Biomolecules
Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, also known as Electron Spin Resonance(ESR) especially among physicists, is a strong and versatile spectroscopic method forinvestigation of paramagnetic systems, i.e. systems like free radicals and most transition metalions, which have unpaired electrons. The sensitivity and selectivity of EPR are notable andintriguing as compared to other spec...
متن کاملCASIMIR, A Submillimeter Heterodyne Spectrometer for SOFIA
The CAltech Submillimeter Interstellar Medium Investigations Receiver (CASIMIR) is a multichannel, heterodyne spectrometer being developed for the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA). It has a very high resolution, up to a million, over the submillimeter and far-infrared wavelength range of 150 to 600 μm, or 2.0 to 0.5 THz. CASIMIR is extremely well suited to the investigat...
متن کاملIn vivo EPR spectroscopy of free radicals in the heart.
Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy can be applied to directly measure free radicals; however, it has not been possible to measure important biologic radicals in situ because conventional spectrometer designs are not suitable for the performance of measurements on large aqueous structures such as whole organs or tissues. We describe the design, construction, and application of in...
